Ecomare is the place to be for learning and fun! Admire the Whale Room with its giant skeletons or visit the seals or other (sea) animals from close distance! Go actively out in the dune park or enjoy an educational exhibition inside. There is always something going on at Ecomare!
Ecomare is a nature museum and seal sanctuary, located in the National Park 'Dunes of Texel'. Get to know the nature of the coast and the sea. Close to Ecomare, you will also find the conservatory, where you can learn all sorts of things about the stars in our universe. These two make it a place where your curiosity will be nourished.
With passion and pleasure you will experience a nice day out for all ages. The exhibitions take you into the story of the North Sea and Texel in an interactive way. In the conservatory you can watch stars, and there are also regular viewing evenings here. In addition to the beautiful (sea) animals, there are also playgrounds that offer entertainment for the little ones. The extensive dune area is a beautiful area for a nice walk.
In 2017, an 18-metre-long skeleton of a deceased common whale washed ashore near pole 17 on Texel. This summer, Ecomare started a crowdfunding campaign to bring the whale's skeleton back to Texel, so that the special whale can be exhibited and everyone can come and see it. De Krim Texel sponsors one of the most unique parts of the skeleton: the 6-metre long skull. We do this because we think nature education is very important!
