Especially for you we have put together a list of fun and new reasons to visit Texel in 2023!
In 2014, divers found the most amazing and valuable objects in a shipwreck from the time of the VOC. They named the wreck 'The Palmwood Wreck', after the many logs of palm wood they also found in it. One of the objects was an untouched 17th-century wedding dress. The wedding dress and other unique findings from the Palmhoutwrak will be on display in a new exhibition at Museum Kaap Skil in 2023. Special oxygen-free display cases were made for the textile finds, in which these special objects are well preserved.
On 30 November 2022, exhibition 'The Kraak' was opened at Ecomare. This exhibition is based on old stories from the Wadden area. Through the most diverse, enchanting videos and a real VR experience, it shows how humans have been trying to live with the turbulent sea nature since ancient times. 'The Kraak' is a travelling exhibition created by production house Spinbarg. With the exhibition, the makers aim to stimulate visitors' imagination and make them look at their surroundings with different eyes. The exhibition can be seen at Ecomare for a year.
Since 1977, 'Lekker' has independently rated restaurants throughout the Netherlands. These restaurants appear in a Top 500, of which only the Top 100 are published online. This year, no fewer than four Texel restaurants are in the Top 500. 't Pakhuus in Oudeschild and Bosq on the edge of De Dennen are both in the Top 500! In place 73 is Het Kook Atelier on Oost and the highest rated restaurant is Bij Jef in Den Hoorn. They are in place 21!

Cycling has been at the top of the Texel Top 10 for several years. With 140 kilometres of cycle paths all over the island, Texel is therefore quite a convenient place to cycle. In the Winter of 22/23, the third cluster of cycle paths will be tackled. This means that around 6 kilometres of cycle path will be renewed next year. The cycle path - which lies around the Dennenbos - will be replaced by durable concrete. Furthermore, they will be widened to 3 metres to make them sustainable, safe and future-proof. That means even nicer cycling in 2023!
In 2023, we will again organise beautiful events and performances in Evenementenhal Texel. For adults, but also for children. Enjoy the music of Guus Bok or experience an impressive dinosaur show! Keep an eye on our website for all events and programming in 2023.
Many different events will be organised on the island throughout 2023. Take part in the various marathons (or come and encourage the participants). Go on a culinary journey and taste the flavours of Texel. Or visit a festival on the beach and enjoy great music and a cosy atmosphere and dance until the sun goes down. The largest catamaran race in the world takes place on Texel every year and the annual speed weekend also takes place on the island. As you can see, there is not a moment to get bored.
From June 2023, you can use the new chalets at Holiday Park De Krim. This type, Lighthouse de Luxe, is extra spacious (68 m2) and has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a separate sauna. We will again organise a photo competition in 2023. Texel is a very photogenic location with its nature, polders, forests, beach and characteristic villages. Every year, we receive many beautiful entries from guests who spend their holidays on Texel. The prize you can win is a free weekend in a chalet type Lighthouse.
