De Koog, one of the oldest villages on Texel, originated in the 15th century with the construction of a chapel in the hamlet of Rijsduinen. Originally called Cooghen, the village flourished as a fishing village thanks to the silted Anegat. However, heavy storms and broken dykes caused a large exodus, so by the early 20th century there were only a handful of houses.
After World War II, De Koog flourished again due to growing tourism. Today, it is a lively seaside resort with modern amenities. Visitors enjoy the beach, nature and cosy atmosphere.
